The National is my favorite restaurant on earth. Everything about this restaurant is right: sustainable meats, local veggies, mediterranean influence, super talented chef (Peter Dale) who is, by the way, one of the best people on earth, crisp and fresh food, excellent wine and cocktail selection, great ambiance and service, and all at an affordable price point.
We designed and built their first website for them when they opened over five years ago and after five years it was outdated. The staff at The National was having a hard time updating it. The time had come for an update. I tell all of my clients that a website is not simply a billboard that you just put up and forget about. It has a shelf life and technological changes can quickly render it ineffective at marketing your restaurant/business.
Of course, the challenge with this is that website design and development is not cheap. They needed a solution that would not blow their budget. It is funny because sites like Squarespace are the reason why we can’t charge what we used to charge back in the 90’s for website development, but it is such a great tool for situations like this.
The team at The National picked a theme they liked, saving them the need to pay for expensive design, and they had us migrate all of the data from the old website to Squarespace. We even added a Gift Cards section that did not exist on the old site and consolidated Peter Dale’s “Chef’s Blog” into the site.
If you have not visited The National, it is about time you made the pilgrimage to Athens, GA and enjoyed a few glasses of wine at the bar and a delicious dinner. Check out their website for a better idea of what’s cookin’!
